About Our Torsion Springs

American Garage Door Supply stocks precision-manufactured torsion springs in a wide range of sizes, wire diameters, and materials, including standard oil-tempered, galvanized, and high-cycle springs. Torsion springs account for roughly 95% of the lift that raises an overhead door, and the constant stress means most original-producer springs only last 12,000 to 15,000 cycles. Replacing or upgrading is straightforward using the Spring Finder above.

Each product page lists the Inch-Pounds Per Turn (IPPT) and number of turns so you can confirm a direct replacement or specify a higher-cycle upgrade with confidence. More cycles means more years of safe, balanced operation.

Things to Know Before You Order

• Measure your spring while it is unwound or in a relaxed state. Values taken under load will be incorrect.
• For an exact replacement, measure three things: wire size, inside diameter, and overall length.
• Length doesn’t need to be exact. Anything within a half inch is fine.
• Wire size and inside diameter are critical. Most ordering mistakes happen here. Use a caliper for best accuracy.
• Wind direction is opposite the side the spring installs on. Standing inside the garage looking out: a left-wound spring installs on the right side of the door.
